Immigration is Now America’s Number 1 Issue

Compressed by jpeg-recompress

At the end of January, two leading polls, reported immigration is Americans’ primary concern.  In this month’s Harvard CAPS Harris poll, immigration nudged out inflation and the Rasmussen’s survey indicated more Americans want to see immigration tightened up.

If this week is any indicator, it’s highly unlikely those results will change later this month!

The Senate’s Emergency National Security Supplemental Bill
On January 12th, House Speaker Mike Johnson said Republicans would veto any additional military assistance to Ukraine unless many of the provisions in H.R. 2, The Secure Border Act of 2023, and new funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall were included. He also insisted the Remain in Mexico policy be reinstated.

Well, he might as well have been talking to a wall. The Senate’s bill was amazingly short on U.S. border security and long on aide to Ukraine, Israel and a host of non-governmental organizations. A scant $20 billion of the $118 billion was earmarked for border operations and only 10% of that would’ve supported border defense.

Clearly, the Senate wasn’t listening to the American people and the backlash was severe. Johnson announced the bill dead on arrival and by Wednesday, Senate Republican support had fallen apart.

Mayorkas Impeachment
We’ve written extensively about impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, so were disappointed when a few House Republicans broke rank and voted against it. But the fight’s not over. Pro impeachment Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) returns to DC next week and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has promised to bring it up again for a vote.

Mayorkas impediendus est! I say again, Mayorkas must be impeached!

Want to understand what’s fueling American’s concern over the southern border? Immigration policy touches many rails — housing affordability, the social safety net, crime, national security, education, physical infrastructure, social cohesion, and culture, and the number of illegal aliens crossing the border is overwhelming.

U.S. Border Encounters 2021 - 2023

Last December, encounters at the U.S. Border reached an all-time high of 370,000; a quadruplication since President Biden took office. Moreover, in 2023, there were 8.6 million illegal intruder encounters roughly as many people as live in Virginia. Projecting the monthly average of 240,000 encounters over Biden’s first term pencils out to 11.5 million and 23 million assuming a second term.

Twitter Review Ukraine Border - Spaces audio

After the Senate’s Emergency National Security Supplemental bill was released, I was joined by @SecureBorderTX, @8USC12 and @PaulKseawatcher on X for a live audience review.  Listen

On my return to Eagle Pass, Texas last week I expected to witness numerous illegal alien encounters. Shockingly, I found nothing.

It just so happens the following Sunday, several governors were scheduled to host a press conference plus a large convoy of activists determined to bring greater attention to the crisis, were on their way.

Interestingly, the flow of immigrants to Texas had miraculously shifted to Arizona and California. Just shows, the current administration is perfectly capable of shutting down the southern border when they want to.

America Invaded

 FROM RUSSIA
The Vladimir Putin Interview

Given the incoherence and lack of transparency when it comes to how policy is being conjured up in the Biden administration, it shouldn’t shock anyone that Russian President Vladimir Putin is simply echoing the sentiments of many Americans, “Don’t you have anything better to do? You have issues on the border. Issues with migration, issues with the national debt. More than $33 trillion. You have nothing better to do. So you should fight in Ukraine. Wouldn’t it be better to negotiate with Russia?”

Watch Video

On Thursday evening, millions of Americans got to hear the Ukraine story from a different perspective and witness a leader (sans handlers) field questions for two hours. Also on the same evening, many more millions of Americans watched aghast as the President of the United States failed his way through a nationally televised press conference whose aim of damage control seemed to have backfired.
