Confusion reigns in DC starting at the top with the mayor as evidenced by the e-mail I just received from Her Honor, Muriel Bowser, dated March 23, 2017 (Vol.3, Issue 11) in which she sends several messages that when analyzed demonstrates a plethora of conflicting views which to me are both illegal and endanger citizen safety. If the safety of citizens is on her agenda, then I would say she is riding off in the wrong direction if she things making DC a Sanctuary City will accomplish that. I would proffer to Bowser and other mayors around the country that sanctuary cities do not make citizens and green card holders safer.
She opens with “Dear Washingtonians,
This week, in recognition of the Cities Day of Immigration Action, my Administration announced that we have extended $500,000 in grant funding to ten DC organizations through the Immigrant Justice Legal Services (IJLS) grant program.”
I don’t know much about IJLS, but as a tax payer what follows does not make me want to see my money going there. She continues:
“In Washington, DC, we value diversity and inclusivity, and we believe that our entire city is safer when all residents know they can call on our government for help. We do not want residents to forgo calling 911 because they fear deportation. We do not want families keeping their children out of school because they fear being asked about their immigration status. And we do not want any parent to keep a sick child away from the doctor because they fear that a trip to the hospital could result in their family getting torn apart.”
This is nefarious behavior to say the least. When she says, “we do not want residents to forgo calling 911 because they fear deportation,” then she is basically abetting the identification of people who are here illegally, which again, is illegal for her to do that. She continues:
“In January, to support these values, I announced that we were creating the IJLS grant program. Through these grants, our city can do more to help torture survivors who are seeking asylum, we can provide guidance to parents who are working to turn green cards into citizenship, and we can connect more residents to the services they need to escape domestic abuse.”
Yes, Mrs. Mayor, I too honor diversity and have family members in all ethic and sexual orientations. I am not against helping refugees fleeing torture, nor against turning green card holders into citizens, but how does that relate to people trying to escape domestic abuse? She continues:
“Our DC values did not change on Election Day, and my Administration will always make the safety of DC residents and visitors our top priority. As we work to strengthen our neighborhoods and spread inclusive prosperity, we will continue defending and advancing the ideals and policies that have made Washington, DC one of the best places in the world to live, work and raise a family”
If your DC values abet illegal aliens and foster ignoring our immigration laws then you should not receive Federal or any other tax money to back efforts in involve breaking those immigration laws. If it is then I would argue IJLS is a racketeering organization!
