For Every Total War There Is a Season

Eighty-five years ago, our nation was in the grips of the “Great Depression” and on the verge of total war. Go back another eighty years and we faced the “panic of 1857” and civil war. In 1773 Colonists protesting taxation raided English ships and dumped the tea they contained into Boston Harbor. Two years later “the shot heard ‘round the world” signaled the start of the revolutionary war.

Today we’re facing stagflation, a potential depression and not just a war but total war.  We’re witnessing institutional failure on par with the 1930s and a vacuum of leadership reminiscent of the pre-Civil War period prior.

Are we being revisited by old and familiar cycles?

Several analysts today write and lecture on the influence of cycles. Neil Howe charts demographics’ effect on civic and political institutions and Harry Dent believes he can predict when the current generation will consume the most snack foods.  Charles Nenner forecasts financial markets and Martin Armstrong prophesizes economic waves.

For the sake of argument, let’s say we are influenced by cycles and unfortunately, they’re all pointing to very dangerous financial and geopolitical times ahead. Given that, wouldn’t it be prudent to refrain from risky foreign adventures and to enact policies that strengthen social cohesion?

Sadly, the Biden administration seems to be doing quite the opposite. From leaving our borders wide open to saber rattling with nuclear powers. We could well be travelling down the road to potential ruin!

If you were an enemy or an economic competitor, how would you respond to the Biden administration opening the southern border to millions of illegal aliens with no prospect of effectively vetting them? Would you send in agents and special forces who could foment civil strife, commit sabotage and/or engage in random acts of terrorism?

These are the aliens we know about. How about the ones that escaped or we never saw crossing the border?

 Great Replacement

Cloaked in the usual verbiage of “reform” and “making things more efficient”, these new rules for the H-1B visa program are making it easier to replace white collar workers and overlook recent college graduates.

• Expands ways to circumvent the annual 85,000 H-1B numerical cap
• Dumbs down H-1B requirements
• Eases the transition process from student visa on OPT to H-1B
• Allows outsourcing companies to continue to game the system

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. Read the Notice
None of this will be news to those that follow us. I’ve written about and lectured on the negative impacts Immigration Reform Act of 1965. We know that its architects lied to the American public claiming the bill would have “modest” effect on our immigration system. What is peculiar is it was printed in The Atlantic. In addition, the author also opines the Democratic Party is horrible on immigration and it is costing the wage earning class.

Those looking to shut down debate on restricting immigration often resort to attacks that include name calling. Groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center apply designations such as “hate group” or “anti-immigrant” to organizations wanting to educate Americans on the topic. The good news is sometimes these attacks fail.
