Dear {name}:
This week's sermon will focus on our upcoming "U.S. Tech Workers On The Hill" event scheduled for November 10th in Washington, D.C.
We plan is simple – tech workers come to DC, walk the halls of Congress and the Senate for a day, meet with their legislators, and remind the folks on the west side of the Potomac River that they work for us and must prioritize the needs of American workers.
We're doing this because the time has come to get out from behind our keyboards and take our advocacy to the next level. As a group, we've done a great job informing others and building a case for our issues. We've successfully pushed back against bad legislation such as the Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act. But to implement positive and lasting change, we need to kick things up a notch or two.
The most effective form of advocacy is meeting face-to-face with legislators, their staffs, and policy makers. Taking time out of one's busy life and bearing the financial costs of traveling to the nation's capital gives ample testimony to a citizen's resolve and commitment. This impact is amplified by the number of people making the same journey for a common cause.
A legislative aide told me that almost every week he encounters lobbyists from the outsourcing and offshoring industries plying their interests on the Hill. There is only one counter to this: we must take to the Hill ourselves.
And we have this advantage! Legislators know the lobbyists are hired guns, and while they may listen to them and begrudgingly accept campaign donations, that stands in stark contrast to the testimony they hear directly from their own constituents in their offices. Nothing is more profoundly moving than hearing it straight from a voter.
The first step is to click the link, go to the registration page, and sign up to be in DC in November. You'll also commit to joining a few pre-event Zoom calls. These calls are crucial because our time with legislators is always limited. The pre-event calls will help you formulate your elevator pitch and coordinate your visits with your legislators and those of others. We envision small teams crisscrossing the House and Senate buildings that day. We'll have three opportunities to assemble en masse and hear from movement leaders. We'll also present an award to one of our legislative champions and recognize several activists' efforts.
We're working with local hotels to help reduce your travel costs. We're committed to making this an amazing day of camaraderie, fond memories, and change-making. JOIN US!
Onward,
