We are making three major announcements in this newsletter, and you will be relieved to know that none of them deal with the election.

First, we are launching our petition that demands this administration, and two agencies take immediate action to remedy decades of harm caused by employment visa programs through a novel interpretation of the Administrative Procedures Act (APA). Should our grievances fall on deaf ears, the petition will become a roadmap to be used by the next administration. Should we come up short in that, it provides the grounds to bring a lawsuit. I encourage everyone to scroll down, click on the link and sign.

Second, we staged a successful launch of our report on 20th and 21st Century Semiconductor Employment Practices and Policies. The link to the full webinar, as well as clips from each of the presenters, is available below.

Lastly, we are launching our annual donation drive that will end on Thanksgiving. Our successes regarding crafting policy, swaying the public and policymakers, as well as pushing back against proposed legislation, is always in direct proportion to the generous donations we receive from you.

You are a force multiplier in the battle to combat the negative impacts of globalization. Our small staff of six people (three full-time and three part-time) couldn't have accomplished so much without the contributions of time and money from our activists.

In closing, we are ten days out from election day, which means we will know who the President will be before we publish our next newsletter. Please vote!

A plan to revive U.S. chip manufacturing rests partly on a company that is firing workers and delaying factories, even as the government pushes for the opposite. At an annual gathering of tech executives and billionaires in Sun Valley, Idaho, this past July, Gina Raimondo commandeered a table near a duck pond and tried to exert her influence as the U.S. secretary of commerce to help rescue an ailing national champion. As media moguls and business luminaries cut deals nearby, Ms. Raimondo met with chief executives from Microsoft, Google and other firms and encouraged them to order their semiconductors from the United States, including from Intel.

How Intel Got Left Behind in the A.I. Chip Boom

Intel was for decades Silicon Valley’s dominant chip company. But missed opportunities and poor execution left it on the sidelines in tech’s latest gold rush. In 2005, there was no inkling of the artificial intelligence boom that would come years later. But directors at Intel, whose chips served as electronic brains in most computers, faced a decision that might have altered how that transformative technology evolved. Paul Otellini, Intel’s chief executive at the time, presented the board with a startling idea: Buy Nvidia, a Silicon Valley upstart known for chips used for computer graphics. The price tag: as much as $20 billion.
